What is the Pupil Premium Grant?

Disadvantaged Pupils

The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools from the DfE for each pupil who is either in receipt of Free School Meals over the last 6 years (FSM) or is a Looked After Child (LAC) or is a pupil from a service family. Nationally the statistics show that these pupils achieve less well than other children. The amount of funding- FSM £1,300, LAC £1900, Service £300- is for schools to use to support their disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between these pupils.


The government believes that head teachers and school leaders should decide how to use the pupil premium. They are held accountable for the decisions they make through:
